Savage Series Squat Stand Short - Asst Colors

I was lucky enough to get this squat stand on a Black Friday deal. And for half off the regular $250 price, this was a steal. Shipping was more expensive than the actual price of the rack, but I think it's still a good deal for what you get.

I got this to be a second rack, and one that I break down and setup for every workout. I fully assembled the uprights, fully tightened with the included hardware permanently. Then what I do is use Surplus Strength's chrome knurled nuts to secure the crossmember at the bottom instead of the nuts included with the set. I can get the crossmember tight enough to be secure for a single workout session easily, and while also making pretty quick to break down. Setup takes me about 3 minutes now, and I can break it back down in about 2.5 minutes since the only thing coming apart is the bottom crossmember.

One downside to the rack, which didn't affect functionality at all, is there was some leftover metal shavings inside the bottom poles that hold the uprights. I can't exactly tell what they're from, but it could be from a couple of the holes being cut. It's not like I was use band pegs on a squat stand anyway, so that shouldn't interfere with functionality. That said, if I really wanted to I could probably put some needle nose pliers in there and work the attached metal pieces loose and remove the rubber end caps to shake out the pieces.

Delivery for these was pretty fast too, other than the usual FedEx BS we home gym users seem to deal with. Two separate delivery days for a 3 piece shipment a few days apart. That's not Fray's fault though.

All-in-all, this is a very solid setup. The j-cups that come with it don't have UHMW to protect the rack uprights, but they do have UHMW to protect your barbell. The paint on some the supports that secure the feet to the uprights also isn't the best (paint chipped off on the first day during assembly). But for this price, I'm not expecting things to be perfect. The uprights have held up well so far paint wise, even without there being UHMW on the inside of the j-cups.

If you're looking for an affordable squat stand, especially if this is a second rack, I think this is a great option. And if you don't mind taking a few extra minutes to setup and breakdown the rack for your workout, it's a nice space-saving option too, while still giving you the benefits of having a second rack for super-sets, workouts with friends, and so on.
